Shelby-Rising City track and field put together a pair of third-place team finishes for both the boys and girls at the Cross County Invite in Osceola on April 2.

The boys scored 101.5 points and took third behind Fullerton with 126 and Nebraska Christian with 114. Those three were the class of the field. Fourth place was nearly 40 points behind S-RC.

The Husky girls scored 74 points in their third-place showing. Nebraska Christian won the girls team standings with 124 followed by Cross County at 82.

The boys won 17 total medals, won four events and had four athletes finish in the top six in two or more events. The girls collected 12 pieces of hardware, won five events and had three athletes with multiple medals.

Austin Coffin and Mason Schleis both won two gold medals and three total. Connor Rathman was sixth in the 800 meters and tied for fifth in the high jump. Colin Wingard nearly made it six gold medals, taking silver in both the shot put and discus.

Coffin won the 100 with a time of 11.59 seconds and took the top spot in the long jump with a mark of 20 feet, 9 inches. His long jump distance was more than a foot ahead of second place.

Coffin was also fifth in the 200 in 24.17 seconds.

Schleis won the 200 in 23.25 and took gold in the triple jump with a leap of 41 feet, 1 inch. He was also second in the 400, less than four-tenths of a second behind the winner.

Allison Nekl led all Husky athletes with four medals. She won the 400 by almost three seconds in a final time of 1:01.51 and took the high jump hitting 4-10.

Nekl was also the silver medalist in the 200 crossing the line in 28.65 and was third in the 300 hurdles at 50.87.

Kamryn Pokorney won both the shot put and the discus. She edged out the competition in the shot put with a top throw of 36-8.25 and dominated the discus by nearly 10 feet on a mark of 108-3.

Kira Pavlik won three medals, including third in the triple jump (31-8), fourth in the pole vault (8-0) and fifth in the long jump (14-5.5).


On Friday, Shelby-Rising City boys golf played at York and finished third with a team total of 390.

Alec Wieseman shot a 92 and placed sixth, Connor Morrison carded a 110, Bailey Belt finished with a 96 for 12th, Carter Fjell shot a 95 for 10th and Grant Brigham tallied a 107. 

The following day, S-RC played at Oakland finishing 12th with a 377.

Wieseman led S-RC with an 82 and finished 17th, Morrison shot a 106, Belt scored 103, Fjell tallied a 98 and Brigham finished with a 93.
