East Butler Tigers

East Butlers Matthew Janak was edged out for the top spot in the 200-meter prelims by Malcolm's Katon Thomas on April 9 at the Yutan Invitational. Janak had his revenge in the finals though, besting Katon by nearly a quarter of a second while taking gold with a time of 23.92 seconds.

He was one of several Tigers to find success at the meet as the team scored 48 points and finished seventh out of 12 teams.

Whitney Spatz scored two points for East Butler, placing fifth in the 1600 with a 6:19.02. 

Allie Rigatuso placed fifth in the 100 hurdles with a 18.25. Rigatuso also scored a point in the long jump with a jump of 15 feet, 1 inch. 

One dozen of the girls' points came in relays. The 1600 relay placed fourth with a team comprised of Olivia Bohac, Sophia Bergman, Spatz and Rigatuso. 

The 3200 relay won silver with Lanae Aerts, Bohac, Bergman and Spatz running a 11:15.43.

Vittoria Ruffa scored two points when she placed fifth in the shot put with a top mark of 34-6. 

On top of winning the 200, Matthew Janak placed third in the 100. Between the two sprint events, Janak scored 16 points on his own for the Tigers.

East Butler boys also had success in the relays. 

Matthew Janak, Michael Janak, Austin Pierce and Jaden Rhynalds placed fifth in the 400 relay. 

In the 1600 relay, Cody Heise, Christian Hofpar, Matthew Janak and Rhynalds placed fourth with a 3:50.49. 

The 3200 relay team placed third when Cody Heise, Hofpar, Kyle Heise and Josh Spatz ran a 9:27.03. 

Rhynalds also scored a point in the high jump when he cleared 5-6.
