FOOTBALL

Record: 6-4

Postseason Summary: S-RC lost to Oakland Craig in the first round of the playoffs 28-22.

Season Highlight: S-RC had two wins over playoff teams defeating Battle Creek 29-14 on Aug. 25 and North Bend Central 34-14 on Oct. 12.

How it ended: Shelby-Rising City and Oakland-Craig were tied 22-22 with seven seconds left in the first round of the Class C-2 football playoffs in Oakland on Oct. 26 when disaster struck for the Huskies. Forced to punt after three plays were unable to run the final seconds off the clock, the snap sailed over the punters head and into the SR-C end zone. In a mad dash to recover the loose ball, it was the Knights who finally gained possession. That recovery meant a touchdown and an abrupt, heartbreaking loss 28-22.

Standout/Star: Mason Schleis

Future Outlook: The Huskies graduated a large senior class including Mason Schleis, Austin Coffin and Max Hoatson, but return key players like Jett Pinneo who will hope to build off of last year’s success.

VOLLEYBALL

Record: 17-14

Postseason Summary: S-RC defeated Cross County in the first round of the sub-district playoff 25-20, 21-25, 25-12 and 25-18 before losing to Centennial in the sub-district final, 25-22, 25-23 and 25-16.  

Season Highlight: Winning a postseason game against Cross County to advance to the sub-district championship.

How it ended: The Shelby-Rising City volleyball season came to an end when the Huskies lost in the second round of the sub-district playoffs to Centennial. The Huskies came into the tournament as the two seed in a field of four. In the first round of the playoffs, they defeated Cross County in four sets 25-20, 21-25, 25-12 and 25 -18. Shelby-Rising City had no time to celebrate the victory though as soon after the win the team faced off against top seed Centennial. S-RC was defeated in three sets in the second round losing 25-22, 25-23, 25-16.

Standout/Star: Kamryn Pokorney

Future Outlook: The Huskies lose some seniors but return some key players like Pokorney that will hope to build off of last season.

GIRLS GOLF

Record: N/A

Postseason Summary: Brenna Houdersheldt qualified for the state tournament as an individual and tied for 29th place.   

Season Highlight: Houdersheldt shot a 103 at Hidden Valley Golf Course in Lincoln at districts and finished 10th to qualify for the state tournament.

How it ended: Houdersheldt shot a 102 at the state tournament ending the season.

Standout/Star: Brenna Houdersheldt

Future Outlook: Brenna Houdersheldt graduates and the Huskies will be looking for a new leader to step up and take her place.  

BOYS BASKETBALL

Record: 17-7

Postseason Summary: S-RC defeated Cross County 55-47 in the first round of the sub-district tournament before losing in the sub-distirct championship to Centennial 66-46.

Season Highlight: Winning 17 games was the most in the S-RC history including both the conference tournament and regular season crown.

How it ended: A poor second quarter proved to be the undoing for Shelby-Rising City boys basketball in the sub-district final. The Huskies trailed the Broncos 15-10 through the first eight minutes, and were within 24-18 with five minutes before halftime until Centennial went on a 11-0 run and went into the break up 17.

Standout/Star: Austin Coffin

Future Outlook: The Huskies lose some key seniors, but return some juniors that will look to keep the momentum from last year.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Record: 7-15

Postseason Summary: Lost to Centennial 53-9 in the first round of the sub-district playoffs.

Season Highlight: Getting back-to-back wins over Dorchester, a 10-win team. The victories came on Jan. 17 and 19 with scores of 24-18 and 34-21.

How it ended: The Huskies season came to an end after an opening round loss to Utica Centennial in the C2-4 sub-district. Taylor Potter led S-RC with three points. 

Standout/Star: Kamryn Pokorney

Future Outlook: Shelby-Rising City will return 65 percent of its scoring and six players who were in at least 20 games. 

WRESTLING

Record: 2-13 in Duals

Postseason Summary: The Huskies qualified two wrestlers for the state tournament in Mason Schleis and Grant Lindsley

Season Highlight: Mason Schleis and Grant Lindsey both won their matches in the semifinal of the district tournament cementing their spots at the state tournament.

How it ended: Mason Schleis went 2-2 at state. He won his first match 5-4, lost 6-2 in the quarterfinals, won 20-7 in the second round of the consolation bracket and lost 5-1 in the third round of the consolation bracket. Grant Lindsey won his first match 7-0,  was pinned in the second period of his quarterfinal match and lost 3-0 in the second round of consolations.

Standout/Star: Mason Schleis

Future Outlook: Mason Schleis graduates, but the Huskies return Grant Lindsey as well as other wrestlers that had success throughout the year.

BOYS GOLF

Record: N/A

Postseason Summary: S-RC’s season ended at districts after none of the Huskies qualified for the state tournament.

Season Highlight:  Winning their fifth straight Crossroads Conference championship

How it ended: Shelby-Rising City was placed in a district with some tough competition and was unable to place in the top three as a team or have any top 10 finishers.

Standout/Star: Grant Brigham

Future Outlook: The Huskies return some key golfers and hope to improve upon last season.
