SOS, Twin River suffer cold bats at Legion state

Area teams Shelby-Osceola-Stromsburg and Twin River struggled offensively during the opening round of the Class C Legion State Baseball Tournament in Syracuse.

SOS was defeated 7-2 by Hartington while Twin River suffered a 5-2 loss to Pender in games played in Syracuse.

SOS now faces Valentine at 10 a.m. on Sunday while Twin River will take the field directly after at 1 p.m. against Syracuse with the season on the line. Both are now in the loser's bracket and will need to win out the rest of the way to stay alive.

HARTINGTON 7, SOS 2: Hartington led off with two runs in its first at bat and led 4-0 through 3 and 1/2 before SOS answered with two in the bottom half of the fourth. The offense was quiet the rest of the way while Hartington added one in the sixth and one in the seventh.

SOS managed just four hits and committed three errors. The Rebels left seven runners on base and were just 1 for 8 with runners in scoring position.

PENDER 5, TWIN RIVER 2: Nolan Ramaekers drove in a two-out run in the top of the first but Pender pushed three runs across the plate in the bottom of the first and held the lead the rest of the way. Twin River was 3 for 8 with runners in scoring position but also left nine runners on base.

Twin River out hit Pender 9-7 but also had just one extra base hit to three for Pender.
