Area women invited to lunch

COLUMBUS -- Columbus Christian Women’s Connection invites area women to attend a luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Sanctuary at 1C Church, 30th Avenue and 22nd Street.

Guest speaker Ellen Lund comes from Fremont with music and tips to “Treasure Every Moment.” Local artist Rod Magg, director of Columbus Art Gallery, will also be sharing ideas. Cost of the event is $10, with reservations due by Monday.

Pancake feed at Peace Lutheran

COLUMBUS -- Peace Lutheran Church, 2720 28th St., will host a pancake feed from 4:30-7 p.m. Jan. 19.

Cost is $7 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-11 and free for children 5 and younger. Proceeds will support Lutheran Hour Ministries, and supplemental funds will be applied for through Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Couples dinner at St. Benedict

SCHUYLER -- St. Benedict Center will host a Valentine’s Day dinner at 5 p.m. Feb. 11.

Married couples are invited for Mass at the chapel followed at 6 p.m. by a four-course Valentine’s Day dinner prepared by Mark and Patty Bosh.

Advanced reservations and prepayment are required. Cost is $55 per couple through Jan. 28, and $60 per couple for reservations made after that date.

St. Benedict hosting retreats

SCHUYLER -- St. Benedict Center will hold a discernment retreat for women from Jan. 19-21.

Teresa Monaghen, Sr. Inviolata Mukhaabi, Fr. Thomas Leitner and their team of consecrated and lay women will help attendees draw closer to God and listen for their calling. Scholarships are available. The retreat beings at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 19 and ends at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 21.

Men’s Retreat: Spiritual Exercises for Discipleship is scheduled for Jan. 26-28. This weekend for men will introduce attendees to many practical tools for living as Jesus’ disciples. Br. August Schaefer, Deacon Duane Karmazin, Fr. Thomas Leitner and Teresa Monaghen will present various aspects of discernment. The schedule will include brief conferences, silence, Mass, Confession, fellowship, and spiritual direction. It's open to all ages and scholarships are available.

Walking the Lenten Journey with Scripture and Benedictine Values is a one-day retreat scheduled for Feb. 3 with Brother Tobias Dammert. This day will include shared lectio divina with selected Scripture passages, time for silent reflection and exploration of Benedictine values regarding the observance of Lent, God’s mercy, the community of brothers and sisters, silence and celebration. Program fee is $30. Lunch is available at the center for $10.50.
