Golf course temporarily closed

COLUMBUS — Quail Run Golf Course remains closed during cleanup following Sunday's storm.

The city expects the course to reopen at 8 a.m. Thursday. Van Berg Golf Course is open for play.

Apply for tourism grant money

COLUMBUS -- The Columbus/Platte County Convention and Visitors Bureau is accepting applications through Friday for the 2017 Visitor Improvement Fund Grant program.

This grant provides funding to improve existing visitor attractions or create new visitor attractions and facilities in Platte County. The funds available through this program are provided from the lodging tax revenue fund and are to be used for capital improvements to attractions or facilities within Platte County owned by the public or any nonprofit organization.

Food Feud at Lakeview

COLUMBUS -- The fifth annual Football Food Feud will be held 7 p.m. Thursday at the Scotus versus Lakeview football game being played at Lakeview.

Fans attending the game may bring cans of food to fill the Scotus and Lakeview trucks. Whichever truck has the most goods by the end of the first quarter will be the winner of the Food Feud. All food will be donated to Simon House and the Platte County Food Pantry. The trucks are being donated for the evening's collection by Ernst Auto.

This event is sponsored by the Scotus and Lakeview FBLA chapters.

Bicycle ride in Butler County

DAVID CITY -- The second annual Butler County Half Century Bicycle Ride will be held Saturday, beginning at the City Park in David City.

Registration is set for 7 a.m. Support is available at stations and through roving vehicles on well-marked 57- and 22-mile routes. Youth and family-related organizations benefit from the ride proceeds.

The longer route has miles of scenic hills in the Bohemian Alps. The shorter route with smooth highway shoulders is less hilly, ideal for the new cyclist. Helmets are required.

Registration for the ride is $35 for adults; riders under the age of 16 can ride for free with the donation of a full-size personal hygiene product the day of event. The products go to the local food pantry.

Square dance fall festival

COLUMBUS -- Harold’s Squares Square Dance Club of Columbus will hold its Fall Festival at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the VFW, 2720 23rd St.

Lunch will follow the dance. Caller will be Lanny Weaklend. Lessons will be held from 4:30-5:30 p.m. starting Oct. 15 at the VFW.
