One person was killed and another was injured in a crash involving multiple motor vehicles this morning in Colfax County.
The crash occurred just shy of 7:30 a.m. on the 1100 mile of Highway 15, Colfax County Attorney Denise Kracl told The Columbus Telegram/Schuyler Sun.
A red 2002 Chevy Tahoe was driving north on Highway 15 and crossed the center line striking a southbound while 2011 Buick Enclave head on. The vehicles came to rest in the middle of Highway 15.
A tan 2009 Dodge Ram truck traveling northbound on Highway 15 then impacted the red 2002 Chevy Tahoe and the Dodge Ram came to rest in the east ditch of Highway 15.
Then, a 2006 International semi-truck and trailer driving south on Highway 15 came into contact with the red 2002 Chevy Tahoe and the white 2011 Buick. The Buick came to rest on the west side of Highway 15 and the Tahoe came to rest in the northbound lane of Highway 15. The semi-truck and trailer came to rest in a nearby field.
The driver of the white 2011 Buick, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the 2002 Tahoe, who also was not ID’d, was transferred by helicopter to a higher level of care and was in critical condition as of this morning. The drivers of the tan 2009 Dodge Ram truck and the 2006 International semi-truck and trailer did not sustain serious injuries.
Nebraska State Patrol accident reconstruction team was called to the scene.
Numerous agencies, including Schuyler Fire and Rescue, Howells Fire and Rescue, the Colfax County Sheriff’s Department and Nebraska State Patrol responded.
The matter remains under investigation.
