Bonnie J. Vacha, 84, of Dodge, passed away suddenly at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point, on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, surrounded by her four children.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, at New Zion Presbyterian Church in Clarkson, with the Rev. Stephen Niles officiating. Interment will be in Clarkson National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, April 15, and will continue from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday, all at the church. Memorials are those of the donor or family choice.

Bonnie was born Nov. 21, 1934, to Edwin and Ruth (Hobza) Callies in Leigh, Colfax County. She graduated salutatorian from Leigh Public Schools in 1952. Bonnie met her future husband, Lambert Vacha, at the Colfax County Fair, had their first date attending a dance at the Stanton County Fair, and were married on April 17, 1955 at First Congregational Church in Leigh. Bonnie taught for almost 50 years in rural schools and special education programs in public schools. Attending classes many years, in 1980, she received her Bachelor's Degree of Education from Wayne State. Bonnie taught all four of their children one year at District 32R in rural Howells.

Bonnie helped Lambert on their farm by Howells, raising their family, gardening, and being an active member of Bethlehem Chapel and New Zion Presbyterian Churches, serving as Youth Group Leader with Lambert at New Zion. Through the years, Bonnie and Lambert enjoyed Pla-Co Pork Producers, dancing, singing, playing cards, and traveling to visit family. She worked with a great group of volunteers at Colfax County Fair Open Class Baking-Canning division. Known for recruiting new members and organizing the Annual Chapter Yearbook for 15 years, Bonnie received Delta Kappa Gamma's Outstanding Member of the Year Award in 2017.

Bonnie will be dearly missed by her four children: Keith and Deb Vacha of Marysville, Kansas; Laurel and William Lennemann of Scribner; Scott and Barbara Vacha of Plainwell, Michigan; Greg and Victoria Vacha of Howells; 22 grandchildren and spouses; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert and Edith Callies of Leigh; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Leonard and Lorraine Vacha of Clarkson; Adolph Vacha of Temple, Texas; James and Ruth Vacha of Cedar Bluffs; Richard Vacha of Clarkson; sister-in-law, Norma and Bill Hassebrook of Madison; Joyce Vacha of Brenham, Texas; aunt, Margaret Hobza; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband, Lambert, on April 10, 2017; her parents, Edwin and Ruth (Hobza) Callies; parents-in-law, Edward and Antoinette (Marik) Vacha; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edward Vacha Jr., Lumir and Catherine Vacha, Albin and Evelyn Vacha, George and Claudette Vacha; sisters-in-law, Bonnie (Adolph) Vacha, Darlene (Richard) Vacha; daughter-in-law, Nancy (Keith) Vacha; grandchild, Jason Vacha; great-grandchildren, Blake Vacha and Bennet Day; many beloved aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
