GENOA — Irene M. Foust, 93, of Genoa, formerly of Fremont, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, in Genoa.
Irene was born Aug. 3, 1924, in Schuyler to Andrew C.J. and Irene (Pollard) Heitz.
She grew up at Schuyler. She attended St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic School in Howells for one year. She was a graduate of Schuyler High School. She worked as a telephone operator in Chicago for one year and then worked in Omaha for two years prior to her marriage. Irene married Henry N. Foust on Oct. 25, 1944, in Schuyler. He preceded her in death on April 19, 2007. They farmed near Schuyler and Linwood then southwest of Hooper from 1952 to 1988. They moved to Fremont in 1988.
She worked for Campbell Soup Company for 15 years and Dr. Harold Smith for 15 years. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont. She sang in the church choir and was a former member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
She is survived by her sons, John (Karla) Foust of Fremont, Bud (Joyce) Foust of Hooper and Marvin Foust of Fremont; daughters, Mary (Larry) Hernandez of Lincoln and Anne (Bob) Vaught of Duncan; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; and sisters, Jean Strnad, Betty Ehrenzeller and Rita Huisman.
A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, with a rosary at 7 p.m., at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont.
