Senior Jaiden Inselman had been waiting for the moment when all phases of the game came together for her Schuyler Central girls softball team. It happened in a big way at the Central City Invitational this past Saturday as Inselman fired a perfect game at the Minden Lady Whippets giving SCHS a spectacular 8-0 victory.
The Schuyler ace struck out eight Minden batters and did not allow a hit or a walk in collecting the first varsity 'perfecto' of her career. Inselman was backed up by the best defensive effort of the team this season as well as a productive offense that supported her with eight runs and six hits in the five-inning affair.
The tone was set early as Inselman struck out two batters in the first inning and induced the third to ground out.
Schuyler wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning. Bailee Kovar crushed a one-out triple to right field then scored when Inselman grounded out to the second baseman.
Jaiden Sock provided the fireworks for the second run of the inning without the benefit of a hit. She walked, stole second, sped to third and then scored on a pair of passed balls.
In the bottom of the second inning, Lissi Martinez scored from third base on a Minden fielding error then Mia Wallingford made the score 4-0 when she scored from third on a two-out single by Sock.
The Lady Warriors let their feet do the talking in the bottom of the fourth inning as they scored two more runs to make the score 6-0. Bailee Kovar scored from third on a passed ball and Sock showed her blazing speed as she stole home ahead of the tag by Minden catcher Hannah Merrill.

In the first game of the tournament, the Lady Warriors found the going tough as Central City rolled to an impressive 22-0 victory. Following the win over Minden, Schuyler Central closed out their play in the tournament with an 11-1 loss to Aquinas Catholic for sixth place.
Earlier in the week the Lady Warriors dropped a pair of single games at Central City and at Centennial. Central City handcuffed Schuyler Central by a score of 13-0 on Sept. 24 while Centennial rolled to a 12-0 victory last Thursday evening.
