Clarkson/Leigh wrestling sent three wrestlers to the Class D3 district tournament in Fremont on Saturday and came away with one qualifier to state in Omaha.
It's one fewer than a year ago when the Patriots sent two but for a program in just its third year of existence, it's a second straight season ending in Omaha.
Freshman 106-pounder Brock Marxsen punched his ticket with a fourth-place finish.
Marxsen received a bye in the first round then pinned Daniel Musgrave of Nebraska Christian.
East Butler's Brayden Brecka scored a 10-4 victory over Marxsen in the semifinals but Marxsen bounced back in the heartbreak round (consolation semifinals) by pinning Alex Spotanski of Shelton to clinch his spot in the state tournament.
Thayer Central's Ashton Sinn pinned Marxsen in the third-place match.
Colby Harney at 126 and John Langhorst at 195 both lost in the heartbreak round ending their season.
"We wrestled well," said head coach Tyler Reeves in comments sent to the Sun. "John (Langhorst) wrestled good, and it was pretty heartbreaking to go out that way being a senior.
"Colby (Harney) wrestled really good in a tough bracket and fell just short like John (Langhorst). All three guys wrestled really well. I expected Brock (Marxsen) to make it. He has slowly put together a solid freshman year. Lost a tough semis match then battled back to finish fourth."
Marxsen will wrestle No. 5 Samuel Foster in the first round in Omaha. Foster who has gone 47-0 at this point in the season.
