Under head coach Jeremy Hlavac, who enters his seventh season as head coach, the Warriors have been a solid crew. He will once again be assisted by Nick Wilcox and Drey Keairnes, who also enter their seventh year of coaching the wrestlers.

An addition this year to the coaching staff is Tyrell Reickert. Reickert is a first-year teacher from Dundy County High School. He was a state qualifier who brings a been there, done that level of experience.

“He brings a wealth of knowledge to the SCHS wrestling team and we are excited to have him on board with us this season,” Hlavac said.

Gone is state champion Jesus 'Chuy' Maganda, state medalists Miguel Roman (fourth place) and Caden Yrkoski (fifth place). seeking another trek to the state meet are senior Travis Marxsen (182 pounds) and junior Alejandro Sanabria (285 pounds).

“We have hard workers that give 100 percent each day,” he said.

Hlavac said that age and experience may be some of the weaknesses for Schuyler this season.

“We will be young in age as we will have a lot of sophomores in the lineup this year,” he said.

Hlavac added that Hastings will be one of the better teams in Class B this year and that the Central Conference is always deep in talent and will have several strong squads competing.

The SCHS wrestling squad begins its season at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 with a home duel match against Central Conference foe Crete.

The always competitive Schuyler Invitational is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Jan. 18.
