ESPN’s Erin Andrews interviews Nebraska’s Ndamukong Suh after the Holiday Bowl Dec. 30 in San Diego. Suh will be the keynote speaker at the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual celebration April 5.

COLUMBUS — Ndamukong Suh, projected by many to be the top pick of the upcoming NFL draft, will speak at the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual celebration Monday, April 5, at Platte County Agricultural Park.

“We are sure that hearing Ndamukong Suh will be of interest not only to Husker fans, but to anyone that values the hard work and dedication that he has invested in becoming the player that he is,” said Neal Suess, chairman-elect of the chamber’s board of directors. “Nebraskans have responded to him like no other player in recent memory because of his humility, dedication to his team, and outstanding character. He is a tremendous role model for young and old … anyone that pursues excellence.”

Also while in Columbus, Suh is scheduled to speak with area high school athletes.

“The chamber is proud to give area students the chance to hear from Ndamukong first-hand,” Suess said. “His story of hard work, a ‘team first’ attitude and dedication will inspire these young people in whatever pursuits they choose to follow.”

Suh came to Nebraska from Portland, Ore.  He earned his degree in construction management from the University of Nebraska in December.

In his senior season, Suh was a Heisman Trophy finalist. He was named National Player of the Year by The Associated Press, the first defensive player to ever win that award.  He was named a consensus First-Team All-American. Suh was the Lombardi Award Winner, Chuck Bednarik Award Winner, Outland Trophy Award Winner, and Bronko Nagurski Award Winner.  Suh’s performance in the Big 12 Championship game against Texas was among the most engaging in memory for Husker fans, as he tallied 4.5 sacks of Texas quarterback Colt McCoy — more than any other team had ever sacked McCoy.

Also at the celebration, the chamber will honor members who have reached significant anniversaries in their years of continuous membership.

Tickets for the event are $25 for employees of a chamber-member business.  Non-member tickets are $35. Chamber businesses can reserve a table of eight for $250. Student tickets are available to full-time students for $15.

To reserve a table or purchase a ticket, contact the chamber at 564-2769 or e-mail chamber@megavision.
