Its May! Hopefully we can start to get some good outdoor weather to come our way.

We have tons of stuff coming up at Keep Columbus Beautiful. First off, this is Big Give Week. What’s the Big Give you ask? Well, it’s the most philanthropic week in town! It’s an opportunity for community members to give back to nonprofit organizations that help make Columbus a great place to live, work, and play. All this week you could go online to Columbusbiggive.org and donate to the nonprofit of your choice.

Keep Columbus Beautiful hosted a family movie night this week. We shared information on our mission, our upcoming events, and of course the Big Give. Our donations this year will go towards purchasing teaching materials for the “Waste in Place” Curriculum for teachers to use in their classrooms. Please consider making a donation to the Big Give. Today is the last day to give big. We would also like to give a “huge” Thank you to The Friedhof Building and the Gaspers for allowing Keep Columbus Beautiful to borrow their space for the movie night. Thanks to Bill’s Tire for the popcorn machine and thanks to Steven Jenny at RE/MAX Total Realty for donating the snacks and drinks for people to enjoy. If you made a donation to the Big Give, thank you for your generosity!

We are working on “getting greener with your cleaner” campaign. These will be safer alternatives to household cleaners. We do have a cheat sheet on our website www.kcbne.com.

If you would like some safer tips for cleaning I highly recommend you check it out. We are partnering with Nebraska Conservation for a educational homemade cleaning products class. More details to come, but you can mark your calendars for June 1.

Last but not least we have received tons of calls in regards to our larger collection events. I can tell you the electronics collection event is on the calendar for June 29th! This one will be somewhat new to us as it's a different recycling company. They will not be accepting TVs this time around but other electronics will be accepted at no charge. The location will be at the First United Methodist Church starting at 9 a.m. until the trailer is full. Normally we have plenty of room, but this time around I cannot guarantee a finish time as I think the trailer will fill quickly. If you have questions about an item, please give us a call at 563-9223.
