If you haven’t heard, Columbus Days is coming up! Keep Columbus Beautiful is a very active partner with the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce in helping put together this weekend community celebration. We attend monthly planning meetings and provide input and sometimes really crazy ideas. As our name states, it’s pretty obvious why we got involved. This community celebration tends to produce quite a bit of waste. Our goal was to help reduce the amount of it not in its correct place. We provide recycling bins for the park and also the street stage area. We also provide cigarette butt containers for the smoking area to help reduce litter on the streets.
Keep Columbus Beautiful also recruits volunteers to help with the cleanup after the parade. The Boy Scouts are tremendous assets to Columbus Days and do a phenomenal job keeping up Frankfort Square. They have rotating shifts of garbage duty with their parents helping. Emptying the garbage cans and walking around picking up litter they see.
We will be having an informational booth at Columbus Days on Saturday afternoon. We will also have a kids recycling activity with some giveaways. Please feel free to stop by and chat with us. We love to share our knowledge about recycling and litter reduction. We also tend to learn since we do get some questions that leave us completely stumped. But, we are always willing to look into finding an answer.
There are hundreds of volunteers that help put together this great event for everyone in the community to enjoy. If you happen to see any of them over the Columbus Days weekend be sure and give them thanks for the volunteer service they provide. It is truly a pleasure to work alongside so many great people.
A Hui Hou.
