Columbus man killed in crash

A 23-year-old Columbus man was killed in a one-vehicle rollover crash early Thursday morning.

Edgar Ivan Aguilar Santoyo, 23, of Columbus, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that occurred on Highway 30 at County Road 3, according to Colfax County Attorney Denise Kracl. This location is approximately 8 miles west of Schuyler and one-half mile north of the Richland turnoff, about 3 miles from the Platte County-Colfax County lines.

Colfax County Communications received a 911 call about the incident at approximately 1:49 a.m.

Schuyler Fire and Rescue, the Colfax County Sheriff's Office, and the Nebraska State Patrol responded to the scene. The Columbus Police Department also assisted with investigation.

Aguilar Santoyo was traveling westbound on Highway 30 when he lost control of the vehicle he was driving, Kracl noted, mentioning that the vehicle rolled multiple times and ejected the driver.

Preliminary investigations show that a seat belt was not in use at the time of the crash, Kracl said. She also stated alcohol had not been ruled out as a factor as of Thursday afternoon.

"While the conditions for the first responders were very difficult, including high winds and below zero temperatures, the weather was not considered to be a factor in the crash," Kracl said, noting that more details were not immediately available. "Our thoughts go out to Mr. Aguilar Santoyo's family."
