Irene H. Volnek
April 17, 1935-November 16, 2019
Irene H. Volnek, 84 was resting peacefully when the Lord called her on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, at her home, Meridian Gardens in Columbus.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, with a vigil service to follow at 7 p.m., all at St. Anthony's Church. Visitation will continue from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday morning, also at the church. Interment will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, AseraCare Hospice or Meridian Gardens.
Irene Volnek was born April 17, 1935, in Nance County, to Adam and Frances (Shemek) Vetick. She grew up on the family farm near Silver Creek and attended school in Nance County. Irene married Michael Volnek on Oct. 5, 1955, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church – Krakow. She worked at Pizza Hut for nine years and Dale Electronics for 19 years until her retirement. She also enjoyed dancing and was an avid game show watcher. Irene was an active member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Columbus.
Irene possessed an abiding love, sense of pride, and devotion to her family. Love and special spoiling of her grandchildren as well as her great grandchildren, while remaining actively involved in all of their lives. She always sacrificed her needs for the good of her family.
She is survived by son, Michael (Charlotte “Charlie”) Volnek of Seward; Chris (Jillian) Volnek of Waverly, Alex (Ashley) Volnek of Seward, and Keri (Trevor) Cartagena of Lincoln; daughter, Norma (Gordon) Hardle of Lincoln; Spencer of Denver; daughter, Deb (Scott) Woods of Omaha; Alissa (Ben) Wormington; Jenna (Carson) Stratman, Andra (Connor) Sharp, all of Omaha; son, Daniel (Tammy) Volnek of Lincoln; Delaney; daughter, Kimberly (Doug) Obal of Columbus; Marshal, Winston, Lyndon and Calder, of Columbus; sister, Delores Tomasiewicz of Columbus; brother, Richard Vetick of Columbus; brother, Bernard Vetick of Columbus; sister-in-law, Patricia Parry of Columbus; sister-in-law, Virginia Konwinski of Silver Creek; brother-in-law, Andrew Volnek of Columbus; 12 great-grandchildren.

Wilma "Willie" Kampschneider
December 19, 1924-November 16, 2019
Wilma "Willie" Kampschneider, 94, of Columbus, peacefully passed away into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Michael Swanton officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at St. Isidore Church, with a vigil service to follow at 7 p.m., also at the church. Visitation will continue from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday morning at the church. Interment will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Wilma “Willie” Kampschneider was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Dodge County, to Alois and Bessie (Havelka) Studnicka. She grew up in rural Howells, and was the second to youngest of a large family of 13 children. Wilma received her education from a rural school in Dodge County. She was united in marriage to Edward L. Kampschneider on Jan.9, 1945. They were blessed with five children and raised them in Howells and later moved to Columbus. After her husband passed in 1977, she went to work at Dale Electronics in Columbus until her retirement.
Willie was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She loved cooking for her family, baking kolaches and pies. She loved working in her flower garden and embroidering, along with watching the birds in her pristine backyard. All her life she loved going to dances and gliding along the dance floor dancing polkas and waltzes. Even while at Brookestone Acres, she was known to wiggle her booty!
She is survived by three daughters: Judy Zimmerman of Bellwood; Karen (Kirby) Johnson of Columbus; Debra Rosenbach of Naples, Florida; two sons: Kevin Kampschneider of Plymouth, Massachusetts; Gary (Jami) Kampschneider of Columbus; sister, Elsie Konsel of Howells; as well as 23 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ed Kampschneider; son-in-law, Dave Zimmerman; Alois and Bessie (Havelka) Studnicka; 11 brothers and sisters, and numerous other relatives.

Heather Anderson, 39, of Columbus, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019, at Bryan LGH West in Lincoln.

Heather was born on June 7, 1980, in Columbus. She attended schools in Columbus and Shelby and earned her degree. She was employed as a manager of AJ's Store in Duncan.

Lorraine Sliva

Lorraine Sliva, 75, of Columbus, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019, in Lincoln.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17, at St. Anthony Church, with a 5 p.m. vigil service to follow, also at the church. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until service time Monday morning at St. Anthony Church.
Lorraine Sliva was born June 9, 1944, in Paxton, to Anton and Evelyn (Hurt) Roschynialski. She grew up in Sutherland, North Platte, Seward and Columbus. Lorraine received her education from Columbus High School. She was married to Virgil Sliva for over 55 years. The couple lived in St. Edward, Osceola, and Columbus. Lorraine worked various jobs over the years, including owning and operating the City Café and Polka Dot Lounge in St. Edward, at Cloverlodge Care Center, Columbus Community Hospital and upon retirement at Pizza Ranch until her recent illness.
She is survived by husband, Virgil Sliva of Columbus; son, Mark (Abby) Sliva of Columbus; son, Mitchell Sliva of Columbus; son, Michael (MyKaela Dishong) Sliva of Silver Creek; daughter, Joan (Alan Rasmussen) Sliva of Albion, Barb Fox of Columbus; sister, Phyllis Gappa of Ashton; sister, Karen (Greg) Hillig of Bismark, North Dakota; sister, Antoinette (Dennis) Baustert of Cody, Wyoming; sister, Norma Selichnow of Columbus; sister, Kathie (Bob) Leuke of Lincoln; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Barbara Ferguson

Barbara Ferguson, of Columbus, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2019, at Bryan West Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, at Grace Episcopal Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Elli Thober and Rev. Susanna DesMarais officiating. Visitation and luncheon will be held from noon- 2 p.m., following the church memorial service, at Dusters restaurant. Memorials are suggested to the Grace Episcopal Church or the donor's choice.
Barbara Ferguson was born Jan. 15, 1926, in Columbus, to Phil and Ruth (Albert) Hockenberger. Barbara graduated from Kramer High School in 1944, and met her future husband, W.M. “Bill” Ferguson, while attending the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. They were married on Dec. 28, 1946, and lived in York for a short time before moving back to Columbus in 1953. Barbara spent her life in Columbus raising her family and volunteering in the community. She was an active member of the Grace Episcopal Church and several other community organizations. She was a member of P.E.O. and the organizer of a Columbus chapter. Barbara loved reading books, golf, and playing Bridge. She was an accomplished Duplicate Bridge player and attained the level of Life Master with the American Contract Bridge League. She enjoyed teaching Bridge and taught several Bridge classes over the years. As well as the great love she had for her family, Barbara also loved her dogs, especially the several poodles she had over the years.
Barbara is survived by husband, W.M. Ferguson of Columbus; daughter, Babette (Lloyd) Dickinson of Lincoln; son, Jamie (Sue) Ferguson of Columbus; son, Scott Ferguson of St. Paul, Minnesota; brother, Henry Hockenberger of Tucson, Arizona; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Vee Hockenberger of Columbus; special family friend, Bonnie Green of Palm Springs, California; many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by parents, Phil and Ruth Hockenberger; an infant daughter; brother, Phid Hockenberger; sister, Charlotte Hockenberger.

Lawrence Theodore Brandenburger
May 4, 1932-November 11, 2019
Lawrence Theodore Brandenburger, 87, of Silver Creek, passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2019, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Silver Creek, with the Rev. William L'Heureux officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Clarks, with military honors by Silver Creek American Legion Post #263 and United States Military Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. with a 6 p.m. vigil service Thursday, Nov. 14, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Visitation will continue from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Friday.
Lawrence was born May 4, 1932, to Frank and Clara (Duester) Brandenburger on the family farm near Silver Creek. He attended District 45 right by his house until the eighth grade. He then started farming with his father and brother until he enlisted with the United States Army. During his service, he was stationed in Germany before coming back to farm. On June 19, 1956, he married Marjorie Johnson at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Krakow (rural Genoa). They made their home close to the family farm until they built on his grandparent's home place in 2009. Lawrence was a lifelong farmer in the Silver Creek area.
He enjoyed going to Colorado and traveling with Marjorie. He served three years on the Clarks Farmers Coop Board and was a lifetime member of the FFA. He loved to go to farm auctions and cattle and bull sales. He also loved to go hunting in the fall. He was very proud of his family farm of 100 years and received the Pioneer Award in 2018.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marjorie of Silver Creek; children: Daniel (Michele) Brandenburger of Glenvil, Robert Brandenburger of Aurora, Colorado, Kevin (Cheryl) Brandenburger of Lincoln, Timothy (Jane) Brandenburger of Madison, Michelle (Enis) Price of Rockwell, Iowa, and Steven (Dorothy) Brandenburger of Silver Creek; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren; sister, Genevieve Borowiak of Grand Island; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edward (Beverly) Brandenburger, Raymond (Charlotte) Brandenburger; sister, Laura (John) Tarnick; infant brother, Lloyd; and brother-in-law, Dominic Borowiak.

Betty Faye Meays, 68, of Columbus, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, in Omaha.

Betty was born March 25, 1951, in Columbus, to Elden and Marilyn (Freeman) Nadrchal. She grew up on a farm in Dodge County north of Rogers. Betty graduated from Schuyler High School in 1969. She attended technical school in Kansas City. Upon her completion she returned to Columbus where she worked at Dale-Vishay for over 45 years until her retirement. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Betty was an avid car collector and enjoyed car shows with her car club. She enjoyed attending her son's baseball games and spending time with her family.
Betty is survived by son, Jared (Megan) Meays of Omaha; two grandsons: Gracin and Graham Meays; sister, Linda James of Tomah, Wisconsin; sister, Lori Wallick of Fisher, Illinois; brother-in-law, Don Zulkoski of Columbus; brother, Ken Nadrchal of Ralston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Keith Nadrchal; sister, Barb Zulkoski; and niece, Tyler James.

Jean Kapels

Jean Kapels, 69, of Creston, died Sunday, November 10, 2019, at her home.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 385 Street and 205th Avenue, with the Rev. Brad Birtell officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Gass Haney Funeral Home, and will continue from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
Jean was born Feb. 2, 1950, in Greeley, Colorado, to Norbert and Mildred (Luetkenhaus) Van Dyke. She was baptized on Feb. 12, 1950, in St. Peter's Church in Greeley. On April 27, 1958, Jean received First Holy Communion in St. Francis Church in Humphrey. She attended elementary and high school at St. Francis in Humphrey, graduating in 1968. On April 19, 1973, Jean was confirmed into St. John's Lutheran Church.
Jean was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Kapels on Aug. 23, 1969, at St. John's Lutheran Church. To this union five children were born.
Jean owned and operated KBT Lumber and Construction in Creston with her husband since 1977. The Lord has granted wings to our beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and inspiration.

Marlys Anderson
May 14, 1927-November 10, 2019
Marlys Anderson of Columbus, formerly of Holdrege, died on Nov. 10, 2019, at Genoa Long Term Care in Genoa.
A private interment will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Concordia University Music Fund in Seward.
Marlys was born on May 14, 1927, in Hastings, the oldest child of Clarence and Freda (Schouburg) Haines. Marlys graduated from Holdrege High School and received a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Kearney State College in 1982. She was united in marriage to Elder Anderson on May 28, 1948, and to this union Candace (Candy) was born.
After raising Candy, she entered the workforce at JM McDonald department store and retired from Becton Dickinson as a quality inspector in Holdrege. Marlys loved her daughter Candy very much, and never truly got over Candy's death in 1999.
Marlys was a devoted grandmother to Andy, Libby, and Phil Stadler, showering them with love, and spent every Christmas Eve at the Stadler family home in anticipation of Christmas morning with them all, which is a memory they will always cherish.
Marlys was an excellent cook who shared her famous potato salad, coleslaw and dumplings with her family. She loved movies and books, especially about the Greatest Generation. She had amassed a vast collection that would rival many libraries.
Marlys moved to Columbus in 2006 to be near Andy and his family. She enjoyed her great -grandchildren's activities, especially hearing them sing.
Marlys is survived by son-in-law, Terry Stadler and wife Faye Dollar of Tyler, Texas; grandchildren: Andy (Cherie) Stadler of Columbus, Libby (Bob) Hernandez of Rancho Cucamonga, California, and Phil Stadler of Upland, California; great-grandchildren: Paige (Mark) Esser of Nottingham, Maryland, Grant Stadler of Columbus, Trinity Stadler of Upland, Danica Trinite and Gianna Hernandez of Rancho Cucamonga; sister, Pat West of Blair; sister-in-law, June Haines of Bloomington, Illinois; numerous nieces and nephews.
Marlys was preceded in death by daughter, Candy Stadler; parents, Clarence and Freda Haines; brother, Charles “Chuck” Haines.

Anita Olson was born Jan.7, 1932, in Platte County, to Carl and Elizabeth (Schafer) Loseke. She attended Immanuel Country School, District 12, Immanuel Lutheran (city) School, and graduated from Kramer High School in 1950. She worked at the hospital in Columbus prior to her marriage to Howard Olson on Sept. 7, 1952. The couple moved to Minnesota where they farmed for nine years and returned to Columbus in 1962. Anita was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting, gardening, flowers, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, reading, volunteering at Columbus Community Hospital, and spending time with her family. She was member of Peace Lutheran Church.
Anita is survived by son, Keith Olson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; son, Les (Jana) Olson of Gretna; son, Vern Olson of Guthrie, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Greta Kovar of Staplehurst.
Anita was preceded in death by parents, Carl and Elizabeth Loseke; son, Jeffrey Olson; sister, Cordula “Corky” Johannes; brother, Roger Loseke.
