Howell

A Schuyler man who pleaded this week to amended gun-related charges in Colfax County District Court has two open Platte County cases scheduled for hearings later this month.

Shawn M. Howell, 53, is scheduled to appear before county court Judge Frank Skorupa on Jan. 23 for a pre-trial hearing in relation to three counts of intimidation by phone call or using electronic communication, a Class III misdemeanor; disturbing the peace, a Class III misdemeanor; and stalking, a Class I misdemeanor. Howell pleaded not guilty to all charges associated with the December 2018 incidents.

The same day, the defendant in an unrelated case is appearing before Skorupa for a preliminary hearing. No pleas have been made on this case, which if the state continues pursuing would be bound over to Platte County District Court since a felony is involved. Howell has been charged with making terroristic threats, a Class IIIA felony; and third-degree assault, a Class I misdemeanor.

On Wednesday, the defendant in Colfax County District Court was found guilty of attempted possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, a Class II felony. Prior to being amended, he faced a 1D felony, punishable by up to 50 years imprisonment.

Howell was arrested in October of last year in relation to a shooting that resulted in two men being injured, as previously reported by The Telegram.
