Sheriff's Report

On Wednesday, Julie Albers, of Linwood, was involved in a single-vehicle accident on East Highway 30 near Behlen Manufacturing Co., said Platte County Sheriff Ed Wemhoff.

Albers struck a light pole resulting in $4,000 in damage to the pole and $8,000 in damage to her vehicle. She was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol fourth offense enhanced (BAC of .15 or higher). Albers was also charged with: Refusal of chemical test; refusal of preliminary breath test; driving under suspension; resisting arrest and obstruction of a peace officer. She was arrested and transported to the Platte County Detention Facility, where she currently awaits a hearing in County Court. She is held on a $50,000 bond, according to Lt. Dave Westfall.

On Thursday, Jonathan Yosten, of Clarkson, turned himself in at the Platte County Detention Facility. He was wanted on a Platte County warrant for operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest and willful reckless driving, said Wemhoff. He was released on a $10,000 Personal Recognizance bond.

Also on Wednesday, Taylor Krzycki, of Columbus, and Louis Rodriguez-Serrano, of Columbus, were brought in on separate charges. Krzycki had appeared for a court appearance when it was discovered he had an outstanding Platte County warrant for possession of a controlled substance, according to Wemhoff. Rodriguez-Serrano was apprehended without incidence at his residence by a deputy. He was arrested for contempt of court and failure to pay a fine, said Wemhoff. After paying his fine he was allowed to leave.

Also on Thursday, a deputy was called to investigate an alleged fraud claim. The deputy found that the caller had sold something on Craigslist, but had been defrauded by the purchased for a reported $3,250.

Court sentences

According to state law, “fines, penalties, and license money shall be appropriated exclusively to the use and support of the common schools ... .” An exception is fines for overloaded vehicles. Seventy-five percent of those funds go to state highways; 25 percent go to the county general fund where the fine or penalty is paid. Fifty percent of money forfeited or seized in enforcing drug laws goes to counties for drug enforcement. Vehicles seized in drug law cases may be used by law enforcement agencies or sold with the proceeds going to schools.
