COLUMBUS -- Ernst Auto Center kicked off this year’s donation contest by awarding $1,000 to the Columbus Community Hospital Foundation.

The Central Nebraska Community Action Partnership came in second place and received a $500 advertising credit from Columbus News Team/News Channel Nebraska. The contest took place March 1 through March 30, with the winner announced April 2.

The donation contest was designed to increase involvement in the local community and to provide support to local organizations that provide valuable services. 16 community-focused organizations participated in the March contest. Area residents were encouraged to “like” one of the eligible organizations listed on the Ernst Auto Center Facebook page. At the end of the voting period, the organization with the most votes (“likes”) received the $1,000 donation. The Columbus Community Hospital Foundation engaged its Facebook followers and pulled ahead in the final week of voting to win.

The Columbus Community Hospital Foundation helps bring advanced medical technology to Columbus and the surrounding communities, released information says.

Donations received help to purchase technology -- like the Wide Bore MRI -- fund scholarships that benefit CCH employees and local students and provide assistance for the greatest needs fund that directs resources to the most pressing needs of CCH.

Second-place winner, the Central Nebraska Community Action Partnership, has an agency mission to partner with individuals and families to encourage independence through community-based solutions. CNCAP consists of service departments that address the various needs of children, elderly, individuals, families and the Veteran population.

“We pride ourselves on being part of the Columbus community and live by the philosophy of supporting the people who support us," said John Ernst, dealer principal of Ernst Auto Center and Ernst Toyota. "It is our pleasure to give back to the Columbus Community Hospital Foundation and see our funds put to good use for the community.”
