COLUMBUS — An encore performance of “Fred: The Movie,” starring Columbus’ own Lucas Cruikshank as Fred Figglehorn is set to air on Nickelodeon at 7 p.m. Friday.

Cruikshank, 17, is the son of David and Molly Cruikshank, of Columbus, and a student of Lakeview High School.

Fred Figglehorn, Cruikshank’s popular Internet character, is depicted as a hyperactive, high-pitched, tantrum prone 6-year-old. The character gained popularity online through short movie clips posted at www.YouTube.com beginning in 2007.

Cruikshank said he was surprised “Fred: The Movie” was rated this year’s No. 1 cable television movie in recent reports.

He said a Fred sequel is being planned with filming likely to begin in the next six months.

Cruikshank said he’s also signed a deal with Nickelodeon for a sit-com titled “Marvin-Marvin.”

“I can’t really reveal anything about the sit-com right now,” Cruikshank said. “I can say that character is nothing like Fred, but that’s all I can say right now.”

Cruikshank started his own Fred Channel on YouTube in May 2008, which now boasts nearly 2 million subscribers.

His videos have received more than half a billion video views since the earliest Fred videos were uploaded in 2007.

“Fred: The Movie,” was written by David A. Goodman, an executive producer of “Family Guy,” with Brian Robbins (“Norbit,” “Varsity Blues”) as director and producer.

In addition to television appearances on the Nickelodeon Channel and popular shows such as “Hanna Montana” and “iCarly” he also has a line of T-shirts, albums and other merchandise for sale on his official Web site at www.fredfigglehorn.

Cruikshank’s “Ultimate Fred Party Pack” includes official webcam video, a phone call from Cruikshank, a personal voice mail recording, limited edition Fred T-shirt, a poster and CD titled “It’s Hakin Christmas with Fred” and a variety of additional Fred music downloads.

The Fred star says he’s having fun and enjoys doing comedy and the time he spends in Hollywood and in California.

“I think it’s awesome to still live in Nebraska,” Cruikshank said. “I like going out to California, but I love coming home and living a totally normal life with my family and friends. I love having that balance in my life.”

Cruikshank said if Fred fans miss the movie on Nickelodeon Friday evening they can own the movie when the DVD is released Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Wal-Mart, Target and other retail outlets.

Spoiler Alert: Cruikshank’s Internet character Fred Figglehorn learns his true love Judy, played by British pop singer Pixie Lott, has moved away and no one told him.

The movie follows Fred through his misadventures and attempts at finding her, only to learn Judy has planned a big party and did not invite him.
