Just can’t wait to see what treasures you might find at the Friends of the Columbus Public Library Book Sale during Columbus Days Today through Sunday? Let me give you a preview of just some of the goodies in store for you!
We may have more of our “Nearly New” category than ever before. These are books with copyright dates within the past three years, and some of the authors we have are Lee Child, Nelson DeMille, Iris Johansen, Baldacci, James Patterson, Grisham, Meg Cabot, Fannie Flagg, Danielle Steel and more! They are a steal at $2.50 each.
Mysteries are always a popular category, and this year’s selection does not disappoint. Two rows of mystery shelves feature a lot of John Sandford, James Patterson, Stephen King, Jonathan Kellerman, John Grisham, W.E.B. Griffin, Janet Evanovich, Patricia Cornwell, Tom Clancy, David Baldacci and the list goes on. Hardback copies of adult books are $1.00, and paperbacks are 50 cents each.
If you are a Western lover, we have an unusually good selection for you this year as well. Thanks to our generous donors, we have two shelves of Zane Grey and three more shelves of a variety of Western authors. Our Christian fiction section is overflowing as well!
We have a large assortment of cookbooks, too. I know you can just download recipes on the internet these days, but when you are tired of cooking and eating the same old things, nothing beats browsing through a cookbook and looking at the pictures to get your saliva glands flowing. If Better Homes and Garden’s “New Grilling Book” isn’t for you, then maybe “Quick and Easy Dump Cakes” or “The Little House Cookbook” is your cup of tea.
Do you have children or grandchildren to shop for? Then you are in luck, because all of our children’s books, from picture books to chapter books to young adult, are all on sale for an unbelievable bargain price at 10 cents each for this sale only. We have so many this year, and we really wanted to see them get into the hands of children to be read, so we decided to make them as affordable as possible while we still make a little money for the library.
A category that has been popular during the last couple of book sales is our “staff picks” area. This features books that have caught the sorters’ eyes for one reason or another. This year we have “Chaplain’s Corner” by Columbus’s own Rev. Dr. Paul Rowoldt, “Stories from the Round Barn” by Jacqueline Dougan Jackson about the history of her family dairy farm in Wisconsin, “Tap Dancing to Work” by Warren Buffett, and several more gems.
Our sorters work hard year round to put donations into categories so they can be easily browsed. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you need help finding something. The sale opens at 6 p.m. today and is open during library hours through Sunday. Hope to see you there!
