Alice Aerni, 92, of Grand Island, formerly of Columbus, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 14, at Gass Haney Funeral Home with the Rev. Cory Burma officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to be directed to Peace Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
Alice Aerni was born on March 17, 1926, to William and Clara (Marty) Johannes in Leigh. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Leigh. She attended school at Zion Lutheran and also attended Platte College in Columbus. Alice was united in marriage to Frank Aerni on March 23, 1947, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus. She worked at Bordy's Clothing, Curry Brothers Menswear, and J. Patrick's formal wear. Alice was a Red Cross and hospice volunteer, as well as a 4-H leader. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, crossword puzzles, and spending time with family. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.
Alice is survived by son, Frank Aerni of Hayward, California; daughter, Barb (John) Franke of Wood River, son, Carroll J. Aerni of Tacoma, Washington; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by parents, William and Clara Johannes; husband, Frank Aerni; daughter-in-law, Debbie Aerni; brother, Paul (Annette) Johannes; sisters, Hilda (Edgar) Littleman and Leona (Paul) Siefken; infant sister.
