Barbara Ferguson, of Columbus, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2019, at Bryan West Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, at Grace Episcopal Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Elli Thober and Rev. Susanna DesMarais officiating. Visitation and luncheon will be held from noon- 2 p.m., following the church memorial service, at Dusters restaurant. Memorials are suggested to the Grace Episcopal Church or the donor's choice.

Barbara Ferguson was born Jan. 15, 1926, in Columbus, to Phil and Ruth (Albert) Hockenberger. Barbara graduated from Kramer High School in 1944, and met her future husband, W.M. “Bill” Ferguson, while attending the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. They were married on Dec. 28, 1946, and lived in York for a short time before moving back to Columbus in 1953. Barbara spent her life in Columbus raising her family and volunteering in the community. She was an active member of the Grace Episcopal Church and several other community organizations. She was a member of P.E.O. and the organizer of a Columbus chapter. Barbara loved reading books, golf, and playing Bridge. She was an accomplished Duplicate Bridge player and attained the level of Life Master with the American Contract Bridge League. She enjoyed teaching Bridge and taught several Bridge classes over the years. As well as the great love she had for her family, Barbara also loved her dogs, especially the several poodles she had over the years.
Barbara is survived by husband, W.M. Ferguson of Columbus; daughter, Babette (Lloyd) Dickinson of Lincoln; son, Jamie (Sue) Ferguson of Columbus; son, Scott Ferguson of St. Paul, Minnesota; brother, Henry Hockenberger of Tucson, Arizona; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Vee Hockenberger of Columbus; special family friend, Bonnie Green of Palm Springs, California; many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by parents, Phil and Ruth Hockenberger; an infant daughter; brother, Phid Hockenberger; sister, Charlotte Hockenberger.
