COLUMBUS — Betty L. Gattermeyer-Lutjens, 86, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation will continue from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday, with a 10:15 a.m. family prayer service, at the church. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery in Columbus.

Betty Lucille Gattermeyer-Lutjens was born Aug. 9, 1931, in Platte Center to O.E. Doc and Lucille (Scheidel) Walgren. She graduated from Platte Center High School in 1948 and attended UNL. Betty married Duane Lutjens on March 5, 1950, in Columbus. The couple lived on a farm near Platte Center until moving to Columbus in August 1974 due to Duane’s failing health. Duane passed away on Dec. 20, 1974. On Aug. 12, 1983, she was united in marriage to Raymond Gattermeyer at St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus. Ray passed away on Jan. 11, 1994. Betty worked for The Columbus Telegram in the customer service department for 19 years. She was member of Trinity Lutheran Church, ABWA, Bettys Club and other organizations. Betty enjoyed collecting pigs, bowling and attending her granddaughters’ events. She never missed a home softball game.
She is survived by her son, Jerry (ReJean) Lutjens of Columbus; granddaughters, Crystal (Donald) Kula of Monroe and Kerri (Nick) Steiner of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Karli and Nash Steiner; brother, Robert (Shirley) Walgren of Columbus; step-grandson, Shawn (Lori) Lake of Bayard; and step-great-grandchildren, Bailee and Beau Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Duane Lutjens; and second husband, Raymond Gattermeyer.
