Betty 'LoJean' Nelson died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, at the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove.

Services for Betty 'LoJean' Nelsen, 87, of Newman Grove, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove, with burial to follow at Hope Cemetery in Newman Grove. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund and Newman Grove Community Foundation.

LoJean (Hendrickson) Nelsen, the daughter of Tillman and Esther (Thompson) Hendrickson, was born Nov. 25, 1931, in Bradish. She attended grade school at Dist. # 38, and graduated from Newman Grove High School with the class of 1949. After graduation, she moved to Lincoln for a brief time and worked at the Woolworth Dime Store. She missed Merle and her family so she moved back to Newman Grove.

On Feb. 22, 1953, she married Merle Nelsen at South Branch Lutheran Church in rural Albion. She worked at the First National Bank of Newman Grove, Newman Grove Livestock Market, Wegner Jensen Fowlkes Auction, Cornlea Auction and Central Plains Auction. She enjoyed flowers, shopping and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Merle of Newman Grove; daughter, Marcia Nelsen of Elkhorn; son, Mark Nelsen of Newman Grove; grandchildren, Kelly (Aaron) Schlee of Lindsay, Bailey (Mike) Jorgensen of Bennington, Megan (Mark) McLaughlin of Omaha, Cody (Miranda) Nelsen of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Zander Jarecki, Piper Jarecki, Elia Jarecki, Tru Schlee, Harlow Jorgensen, Sloane Jorgensen, Cora McLaughlin, Davi McLaughlin, Etta Nelsen, and Becker Nelsen; sisters, LaRue (Paul) Kipper of Las Vegas, Sharon (Dean) King of Newman Grove; and daughter-in-law, Renee (Rob) Rose of Newman Grove.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Nelsen; grandson, Brandon Nelsen; and grandson-in-law, Adam Jarecki.
