Carol Christensen, 77, of Holdrege, formerly of Columbus, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019, at Christian Homes in Holdrege.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Ollie Fullmer officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Thursday. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Gass Haney Funeral Home, and will continue from 10 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Memorials may directed to those of the family's choice.

Carol Jane Christensen was born on Oct. 21, 1941, in Palmer, to Lawrence and Helen (Scholz) Dankert. She graduated from Genoa High School in 1960. Carol was married to Gale “Sam” Christensen in Genoa on April 30, 1961, and to this union two children were born: Greg Alan and Diane Lynn. The couple later divorced. Carol worked at Nielsen Chevrolet, and then became a stay-at-home mom to care for her kids, especially Greg, who had Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. After Greg passed away in 1984, Carol was employed at Fleischer Manufacturing, Vishay, and BD. She was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. After retirement, Carol volunteered at church and also helped deliver Meals on Wheels. In 2016, Carol moved to Holdrege to be near her daughter.

Carol leaves to celebrate this life daughter, Diane (Dave) Freeland of Holdrege; grandson, Tyler Dahl of Kansas City, Missouri; granddaughter, Caitlin Dahl of Holdrege; step granddaughter, Lacie (Kelly) Wright of Holdrege; step granddaughter, Whitney (Cole) Kreinert of Platte Center; step grandson, Kyle (Rylee) Freeland of Oxford; nine step great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Carol was preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Helen Dankert; son, Greg Christensen; nephew, Roger Dankert; sister-in-law, June Green.
