Del Rae Schieffer

Del Rae Schieffer, age 80, of Columbus, died Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the Columbus Community Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Del Rae was born November 17, 1937 in Crofton, Nebraska to Henry and Rose (Gohman) Wortmann. She grew up on a farm near Crofton and graduated from Crofton High. She married Anthony "Tony" Schieffer on Aug. 29, 1959 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Crofton. They lived in Lincoln, where she worked for Lincoln Telephone Co. while Tony attended UNL. They then moved to Illinois before returning to Lincoln. In 1968 they moved to Columbus. She was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. Del Rae was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was an active volunteer with Meals On Wheels, Simon House, and the St. Isidore Prayer Line. She enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds and squirrels, caring for her "free little library", crafts, ceramics and was an avid Cornhusker fan.
A Mass of Christian burial is being held 11 a.m. Monday, March 5, at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 3921 20th Street in Columbus. Visitation is being held 5-7 p.m. Sunday with a 7 p.m. visitation following. Visitation continues from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church. Interment is being held at All Saints Cemetery.
She is survived by: husband Anthony "Tony" Schieffer, of Columbus; son Gary (Theresa) Schieffer of Lincoln, IL; daughter Cheryl (Jeff) Abegglen of Chadron; daughter Julie (Rick) Haney of Columbus; son Tony (Diana) Schieffer of Cathedral City, CA; daughter Donna (Robert) Kennedy of New York, NY; son James (Kristin) Schieffer of St. Louis, MO; daughter: Rachelle (Chris) Wehner of Boulder, CO; 12 Grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; sister Lucille (Dick) Rye of Sioux, Falls SD; brother Dick (Nancy) Wortmann of Crofton; brother James (Mary Ann) Wortmann of Crofton; sister Judy (Pat) Murphy of Sioux Falls, SD; and brother Bob (Barbara) Wortmann of Shubert.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jerry Wortmann and sister Joan Hegge.
