Dolores Byrnes, 98, of Columbus, died Saturday, Dec.1, 2018, at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 10, at St. Isidore Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joe Miksch celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in the St. Bonaventure Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9 at Gass Haney Funeral Home, with a vigil service at 5 p.m. Visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m. on Monday at the church.
Dolores was born Jan. 29, 1920, to Richard and Mary (Quinn) Regan in Creighton. After graduating from St. Ludger's Catholic School in Creighton in 1937, Dolores attended business school in Omaha. She then went to work as a legal secretary for several years before her marriage to Lawrence “Larry” Byrnes, Sr. on June 10, 1946, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. She went to work at St. Isidore Catholic Church as a secretary, and later worked at Equitable Savings & Loan in Columbus. Dolores loved to garden with her flowers, go on walks, travel, and spend time with her family and friends.
Dolores is survived by daughter, Kathleen Byrnes of Omaha, son, Larry (Ann) Byrnes, Jr., of Gretna, son, Timothy (Dino) Byrnes of Paradise Valley, Arizona, son, John Byrnes of Columbus, son, Patrick Byrnes of Columbus, daughter, Mary Lou Wacha of Columbus, daughter, Tracy Byrnes of Omaha; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Dolores was preceded in death by parents, Richard and Mary Regan; husband, Lawrence “Larry” Byrnes Sr.; son-in-law, Jerry Wacha; her siblings.
