Donald George Geier, 85, of Columbus, was called home to Eternal Rest while surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, after a short illness at the Columbus Care and Rehabilitation Center.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, at Peace Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Michael Klatt officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, rural Columbus, with military honors by the American Legion, Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, at Gass Haney Funeral Home, and will continue from 9 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Donald was born on April 4, 1933, in Platte County, to George and Violet (Curtis) Geier. He was the oldest of seven children, and attended grade school in Platte County. He was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He served in the United States Army from July 23, 1953-June 23, 1955, during the Korean conflict. Upon completing his service in the Armed Forces, he farmed for many years before beginning a lengthy career as a professional truck driver.
Donald is survived by his spouse, Lucille Geier of Columbus; children Lynn Geier of Norfolk and Deb (Ray) Levey of Columbus; grandchildren Dustin Geier of Columbus, Lindsey (Aaron) Long of Shelby, and Dylan Geier of Columbus; great-grandchildren Ashlyn, Gage, and Hunter Long. He is also survived by his siblings: Rosella Starostka of Grand Island, Delores “Dee” Santin of Central City, Leroy (Sharon) Geier of Clarks, Carroll 'Butch' (Rosalie) Geier of Durango, Colorado, step-brother Larry (Jean) Andreasen of Columbus, step-sister Judy (Dana) Christman of Genoa; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, George Geier and Violet Geier Andreasen; brother, Robert Geier; sister, Betty Jane Geier; stepfather, Francis Andreasen; brothers-in-law, Robert Starostka and Donald Santin.
