COLUMBUS -- Donald Hoffman, 86, of Columbus, passed away Friday, Feb. 23, 2018 surrounded by his family at his home in Columbus.

Don was born Jan. 22, 1932, near Laurel, Nebraska, to Arlie & Elizabeth (Pochop) Hoffman. He grew up in the Plainview area where he graduated from high school. He attended Norfolk Jr. College where he played football. Don served in the United States Army from 1953-1955, stationed in Korea. He completed his degree at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. Don married Rose Marie Rossmar on Aug. 18, 1956 in Sioux City. They moved to Columbus in September 1966. Don worked for many years as a cattle buyer. Don was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and the Knights of Columbus #938. He enjoyed golf, shooting sports, gardening and attending his grandchildren's events.

A visitation is scheduled to be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 1565 18th Ave, Columbus. A vigil is also scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at the same location. A Mass of Christian Burial is being held for Don at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, which is followed by internment held at St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Military Honors will be completed by Hartman Post #84 and the American Legion Honor Guard.

Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rose Marie Hoffman, of Columbus; son Steve Hoffman, of Columbus; daughter Deanna Hoffman, of Columbus; son Chris (Julie) Hoffman, of Columbus; son Tom Hoffman, of Anaheim Hills, California; daughter Heidi (Joe) Plance, of Omaha; and his six grandchildren, Mitchell, Jonathan, Pauline, Ashley, McKayla and Kate.
