Donald Spale, 83, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, at the Columbus Care and Rehab Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, with an 8 p.m. vigil service at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Isidore Church. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus.
Donald J. Spale was born Sept. 20, 1935, in Colfax County, to Joseph and Bridget (Tajchman) Spale. He attended school in Schuyler. On Oct. 24, 1964, Don was united in marriage to Mary Simonsen in Shelby. They lived in Columbus where Don worked at Higgin's Mill and DX gas station in Schuyler. He later worked at the Elk's Country Club and Duster's Restaurant in Columbus. Don enjoyed polka music, dancing, and most of all spending time with family. He was a faithful member of St. Isidore Catholic Church.
He is survived by daughter, Susan (T.J.) Held of Lincoln, son, Steve (Lisa) Spale of Battle Creek; six grandchildren: Molly (Jared) Hoefelman, Kylee Aerni, Donny Spale, Tony Sander, Megan Seivert and Mari Spale; three great-grandchildren: Hunter, Lily and Emryn; sister, Judy (Leonard) Svoboda of Omaha, sister, Pat Svoboda of Ashland, brother, Terry (Sherri) Spale of Schuyler, brother, Fred (Pam) Spale of Fremont, brother, Duane (Janet) Spale of Grand Island; sister-in-law, Judy Spale of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by wife, Mary Spale; parents, Joseph and Bridget Spale; brothers, Gerald, Kenneth, Joseph L., and Tom Spale.
