Doris Jean Luchsinger, 79, of Platte Center, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2018, at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Patrick Sparling and the Rev. Christopher Ramstad officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, at Gass Haney Funeral Home, and will continue from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Hour or Immanuel Lutheran Family Life Center.
Doris Jean Luchsinger was born Oct. 9, 1939, in Platte County, to Ernest and Louise (Janssen) Gehring. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Grand Prairie, and confirmed her Christian faith through confirmation at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Doris attended Platte County District 28 Grade School, Immanuel Lutheran Grade School, and graduated valedictorian of Kramer High School in 1957, where she was active in Future Homemakers of America and Cheer Club.
Doris was the executive secretary for Nebraska Schweser stores prior to her marriage to Carol Duane Luchsinger on Sept. 20, 1958, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. After her marriage, Doris worked alongside Carol D. on the farm. Doris served on the AAL (Thrivent Insurance) board for more than 15 years and helped with Immanuel Lutheran Sunday School. She had been active in Walther League, sang in the church choir, was a member of the Board of Youth, Card Club, and a sponsor on youth trips. Doris was a 4-H leader and assistant leader for “Jr. Shermanettes” and “Good Guys” for many years. She volunteered her time as a room mother at Platte County District 84 and served on the voting boards of Grand Prairie and Sherman Townships. Doris enjoyed sewing, cooking, and traveling.
Doris is survived by husband, Carol D. Luchsinger of Platte Center; son, Mark (special friend – Nora Pritzel) Luchsinger of Columbus, son, James (Sharon) Luchsinger of Lander, Wyoming; daughter, Christine Stephenson of Lincoln; grandchildren, Jessica (Seth) Dodds, Jaime Stephenson, Julia Stephenson, and Nathan Luchsinger.
Doris was preceded in death by parents, Ernest and Louise Gehring.
