Dorothy L. Zwick, 80, died Sunday, May 26, 2019, at Mory's Haven in Columbus.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus.
Dorothy (Doe) LaRay Zwick was born April 25, 1939, in Lakefield, Minnesota, to Rudolph Albert and Della Ellen (Ackerman) Hoefker. She attended grade school in Minnesota, graduated from high school at Concordia High School in Seward, and attended college at Concordia College in Seward.
Doe worked with handicapped children at Region IV Services for 10 years, and owned and operated "The Other Place" restaurant and tavern in Bellwood for 8 1 years. She also served as Activity Director at the Schuyler Nursing Center for 13 years, and during that time received the Northeast District Nebraska Health Care Associate's Outstanding Therapeutic Recreational Coordinator Award. After retiring, she was a volunteer at several area nursing homes, and received the Associate Volunteer of the Year from the Schuyler Nursing Center.
Doe appeared in several Platte Valley Playhouse productions, and served for a number of years as their reservations chair. She loved singing, playing keyboard, sewing, crocheting, quilting, painting, and being in the outdoors. Doe was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus, where she sang in the choir.
She is survived by son, Scott (Suzi) Zwick of Columbus; son, Van (Becky) Zwick of Huntington Beach, California; grandchildren: Nathan (Tami) Zwick of Lincoln, Justin (Dani) Zwick of Raeford, North Carolina, Kayla (fiancée Zack Wood) Zwick of Westminster, California, Ryan Zwick of Huntington Beach; great-grandson, Michael Zwick of Raeford, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by parents, Rudolph and Della Hoefker.
