Dwayne ‘Dewey' Lindhorst

Dwayne “Dewey” R. Lindhorst, 83, Lindsay passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Boone County Health Center, in Albion, Nebraska.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay with Fr. Jim Novotny officiating. Burial will follow in the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Lindsay, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #261 of Lindsay, NE and the Army National Guard. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the church with a 7 p.m. wake service and rosary led by the Knights of Columbus. Visitation will resume Tuesday morning at the church until service time.

Dwayne “Dewey” R. Lindhorst, the son of Joseph and Minnie (Wiese) Lindhorst was born on Nov. 9, 1934 at the family home at Walker Township, Platte County, Nebraska. He was baptized on Nov. 11, 1934 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Lindsay. Dewey attended school at Holy Family in Lindsay until the eighth grade. On Feb. 25, 1954 Dewey entered the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 2, 1956.

Dewey was united in marriage to Joan Brockhaus on April 12, 1958 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey. The couple lived on a farm by Newman Grove until 1963, and then they moved south of Lindsay until 1967, then to their existing farm. Dewey farmed his whole life.

Dewey was a lifetime member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay, NE, Knights of Columbus, the American Legion Post #261 and VFW. He served on the parish council, was a trustee at church, and served on the Coop Board in Lindsay. Dewey's love was for farming. He also enjoyed baseball and coached the Little League team, and he was on a bowling league. Dewey attended many cattle sales and would go golfing often with his buddies. He also enjoyed watching and cheering for the Huskers and playing cards. Dewey treasured his time with Joan, with their Sunday afternoon drives and vacations. Joan, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his world.

Dewey is survived by his wife Joan of Lindsay; five children: Ray (Cindy) of Lindsay; Cindy (Dan) Hemmer of Albion; Connie (Chris) Leick of Fremont; Mike (Sherry) and Jeff (Nicole) of Lindsay; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, one expected great-grandchild; two sisters Arlene Kurtenbach of Newman Grove, Mardell Preister of Humphrey; brother Chuck (Arlene) Lindhorst of Carter Lake, Iowa; brother-in-law Lenny Brockhaus of Norfolk; sisters-in-law Louise Schroeder of Lincoln; Irene Utecht of Bloomfield; Betty Brockhaus of Humphrey; Alice (Alvin) Hamling of Albion; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Danny Joe; grandchildren: Abby Hemmer and Colby Lindhorst; brother Bob Lindhorst; brothers-in-law Jerry and Tom Brockhaus, Alvin Preister, Swede Kurtenbach, Alvin Schroeder, Don Utecht; and sisters-in-law Alma Lindhorst and Carol Brockhaus.Levander Funeral Home of Albion, NE is in charge of the arrangements.
