Al Mossman

Ernest Allen “Al” Mossman of Columbus died Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at his home in Columbus.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the wishes of the family for later designation.

Al was born May 20, 1937, in Towanda, Kansas, to Everett Allen and Ethel M. (Walton) Mossman. He attended elementary schools in El Dorado and Butler County, Kansas rural schools, and attended Potwin High School in Kansas. On Nov. 2, 1963, he married Elaine J. Wilms in Yankton, South Dakota.

Al served in the U.S. Army in 1957 and 1958 whereupon he received his GED, learned the mechanics trade, and became a GM Master Technician. He lived in parts of the country settling in Geneva, Filmore County, in 1956, and was employed by Shaner Chevrolet. Al moved to Columbus, Platte County, in 1961, and was employed by Nielson Chevrolet. He owned and operated his own business (Al's Repair) in Columbus from 1964 to 2008 when he retired. Al loved cars and spent many hours racing the local short tracks and on the drag strips. His favorite toy was his 1961 Chevrolet Corvette, which he still owned.

Al is survived by wife, Elaine Mossman of Columbus; son, Scott Mossman of Topeka, Kansas; son, Ralph (Carla) Mossman of Cedar Bluffs; grandchildren: Seidy Mossman of Colorado, Eyan Mossman of Topeka, Wendy Wooters of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Shannon Anderson of Columbus, Jeremy Mossman of Wayne, Misti (Perry) Hicks of Washington, Kelly (Adam) Cline of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Joe Mossman of Columbus; extended grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Larsh of Coffeyville, Kansas, Geneva (Leroy) Duke of Independence, Kansas, and Ruth (Loyd) Dozier of Dearing, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by parents; son, Mike Mossman; twin sister, Darlene Young.
