COLUMBUS — Eugene Donoghue, 94, of Columbus, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at Columbus Community Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 3921 20th St., in Columbus. Interment will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus with military honors by the Platte Center American Legion Parry Post 283 Honor Guard. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, with a 4 p.m. vigil, at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church.
Eugene Donoghue was born Feb. 5, 1923, in Platte County to Dan and Elizabeth (Macken) Donoghue. He attended Oakdale District #4 school. Gene was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II and served from 1944-46. He was a part of the Normandy Invasion into France. Gene returned to the farm northwest of Columbus where he farmed until retiring and moving into Columbus in 1988. He was united in marriage to Berdella Reynoldson on Feb. 26, 1988. Gene loved going to cattle sales and visiting with cattle producers. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and American Legion Parry Post 283 in Platte Center, and previously served on the Shell Creek Township Board and Co-Op Board.
He is survived by his wife Berdella Donoghue of Columbus; five stepchildren; sister-in-law Irene Donoghue of Schuyler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dan and Elizabeth Donoghue; and brothers Mark (Joyce), Phil and Paul (Gladys) Donoghue.
