COLUMBUS -- Frances Ella “Billie” Brakel died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, of complications from the flu. She was born Oct. 7, 1921, to Fred and Ella Behlen of Columbus.
Prior to her marriage Billie was the society editor for The Columbus Telegram newspaper. She was a Civil War buff, prolific reader, taught herself to play the piano and met her future husband while taking voice lessons from his mother. She was a member of the Evansville Kennel Club, and a founding member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Billie is preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Brakel Jr., M.D.; parents; and siblings.
She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Ann and Cathy Jo; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Ave.
