MEADOW GROVE — Gary D. Pekny, 56, of Meadow Grove, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Care Center.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk. Fr. Dan Andrews and Deacon Jim Doolittle will officiate. Organist will be Mary Bruckner with the Bound For Glory Choir singing. Casket bearers will be (brothers) Frank Pekny, Jack Pekny, Dan Pekny, Ted Pekny, Chuck Pekny and Dean Pekny. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. rosary, at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Norfolk.

Gary was born April 22, 1961, in Schuyler to Rudy J. and Matilda (Peter) Pekny. He belonged to St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Norfolk.

Gary graduated from Northeast Community College as an electrical lineman and as a communications broadcaster. He worked at Affiliated Foods in general maintenance for 15 years, at Faith Regional Health Services in general maintenance for six years, and at Nucor Steel and Cold Finish as an off line tester for 12 years. Gary’s hobbies included golfing, mushroom hunting, pheasant hunting, fishing, camping, playing blackjack and taking long walks around Skyview Lake. He also enjoyed watching Nebraska football, Golden Girls softball and "Star Trek" movies. Most importantly, he cherished spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his children Amanda (Andy) Warren of Plattsmouth, Greg Pekny of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jeremiah Franklin of Minden and Kaylani Pekny of Crete; two grandchildren Amelia Warren and Madeline Pekny; and siblings Frank (Cindy) Pekny of Norfolk, Jane (Randy) Johnson of Burwell, Jack (Jane) Pekny of Columbus, Chuck (Jane) Pekny of Clarkson, Dean (Sue) Pekny of Clarkson, Dan (Diahn) Pekny of Norfolk, Ted Pekny of Fremont, California, Marcie (Terry) Smith of Burwell and Grace (Lawrence) Peterson of West Point.

He was preceded in death by his parents Rudy and Matilda.
