FREMONT -- Gaylen G. Dorau, 68, of Fremont, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, at UNMC Omaha.
Gaylen was born on May 3, 1949, at West Point to Calvin and Audrey (Thorman) Dorau. He attended Wisner Public School and graduated in 1967.
On June 16, 1968, he married his high school sweetheart Judy (Jensen) Dorau at the Christ Lutheran Church at Wisner. Gayle often worked with his father, Calvin, in their family painting business. Gayle then served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, from 1969-1971 as a sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star.
After serving, Gayle went to HVAC school, then moved to Bellevue with Judy to start a family. He worked for several years as an HVAC specialist in Elkhorn, then Fremont. Gayle began his 25-year career at 3M in Valley, retiring in 2004. He also earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from Bellevue University. Gayle and Judy celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary in 2017.
Gayle's favorite pastimes were camping, fishing, playing horse shoes, sheephead and cribbage. Plus listening to polka and country music. Best of all, time with his granddaughters.
Gayle is survived by his loving wife Judy; daughter Ann and Patrick Smith and Joslyn of Omaha; son Kris and Leta Dorau and Emily and Alyssa of Columbus; Mike and Alicia Dorau of Fremont; sisters Karen and Ed Scriven of Columbus; Beth and Jerry Meyer of Wisner; Lanette and John Stoffel of Norfolk; Denise and Jerome Kreikemeier of West Point; sister in-law Rachael Jensen of Fremont; brother in-law Jim Jensen of Bailey, Colorado; many nieces and nephews; several aunts.
Gayle was preceded in death by his sister Cathy Dorau; parents Calvin and Audrey (Thorman) Dorau; brothers in-law Ron Schultz and Ron Jensen; sister in-law Marci Jensen; nephew Brian Schultz.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at Dugan Funeral Chapel in Fremont.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church of Fremont.
