LAUREL -- Georgianne Rediger Gerhart was born Oct. 26, 1928, in Laurel. Her parents were Vic and Anne (Hansen) Rediger. She passed away on Feb. 13, 2018, in Lincoln.
Georgie attended elementary school in Omaha and moved to Tekamah graduating from Tekamah High School in 1946. It was in junior high school that she acquired the nickname “Torchy” which continued through her college years. Georgie attended the University of Nebraska where she met her husband H.L. (Bud) Gerhart. They made their home in Newman Grove raising their children and living there for 58 years before moving to Lincoln.
Georgie was a supportive partner throughout Bud’s banking career and served as director and shareholder of the Bank of Newman Grove. She was a member of Fellowship Bible Church, PEO Chapter DO and Newman Grove Library Book Club. Georgie’s interests included tennis, golf, biking, skiing, bridge, needlework and her grandchildren. She and Bud were avid cyclists and enjoyed biking the USA, Europe, Canada and New Zealand with friends and family.
Georgie is survived by her husband of 66 years, H.L. (Bud) Gerhart Jr.; children Jeff (Rebecca) Gerhart of Newman Grove, Julie (Peter) Skeffington of Loveland, Colorado, and Sarah (Jeff) Peetz of Lincoln; sister Kay (Roger) Ottenbach of Port Orchard, Washington; sister-in-law Mary Ellen (Carl) Petersen of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Juanita (Poochie) Maloney, and her brothers-in-law Carl Petersen and Ed Maloney.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Roper & Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive, (40th & Yankee Hill Rd.) Lincoln NE 68516.
Interment and memorial service will be at Hope Cemetery in Newman Grove at a later date.
