Gerald "Duane" Kamm, 89, of Columbus, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2019, at Columbus Care and Rehabilitation Center.
The funeral service will be held at10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Rev. Patrick Sparling and Rev. Christopher Ramstad officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery with military honors by The American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Gass Haney Funeral Home, and continue from 9 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. There will be a family prayer service at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Memorials are suggested to those of the donor's choice.
Gerald “Duane” Kamm was born Jan. 13, 1930, in Platte Center, to Nick and Lena (Borchers) Kamm. He graduated from Platte Center High School. Duane was united in marriage to Norma Jean Sjuts on Aug. 27, 1950, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Humphrey.
Duane entered the United States Army on Jan. 22, 1952, and was honorably discharged on Jan. 13, 1954, serving during the Korean War. Duane worked at Quality Hatchery and Columbus Hatchery for many years before becoming a truck driver for Purina Feeds-Coop until his retirement. He had a love for “chickens” and raised many different varieties, showing them at the county fair. Besides his chickens, Duane enjoyed fishing, gardening, trips to Minnesota on vacation, and spending time with family.
Duane is survived by son, Les (Deb) Kamm of Columbus, son, Randy (Jeri) Kamm of Kalispell, Montana, son, Jeff (Chris) Kamm of Columbus, daughter, Deb Adkisson of Columbus; 12 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Hazel Garbers of Lincoln, sister, Marian Mueller of Lincoln, sister-in-law, Imelda Leapley of Coleridge, brother-in-law, Don (Norma) Sjuts of Humphrey.
Duane was preceded in death by parents, Nick and Lena Kamm; wife, Norma Jean Kamm; sister, Leona Baumgart, and sister, Mildred Husman.
