Gretchen A. Arndt, 77, of Columbus, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018, at Columbus Care and Rehabilitation Center.
The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Gass Haney Funeral Home, with the Rev. Cory Burma officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until serviced time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus.
Gretchen Ann Arndt was born July 7, 1941, to Arthur and Laura (Mohr) Alpers in Columbus. She graduated from Kramer High School in 1959. Gretchen was united in marriage to Javan Arndt in August of 1959, and from this marriage they had three children. She was a farm wife near Platte Center until buying into Arndt Building Systems in 1980, which they operated until Javan's passing in 1988. Gretchen then moved to Columbus where she worked at Maximus as a cook. She then shared a life together with Bob Poe until his passing in 2017. Gretchen enjoyed bowling, golfing, cooking, spending time with friends, going to Lake Havasu, Arizona, for the winter, and was an avid Husker fan. She also enjoyed working at the Husker House part-time where she met many friends.
Gretchen is survived by daughter, Christine Raymond of Las Vegas, son, Kevin (Angie) Arndt of Columbus, daughter, Cindy (Fiancé Jeff Zysset) Borer of Orleans; grandchildren: Brandi Raymond of Las Vegas, Tyler Arndt of Platte Center, Justin (Kelly) Arndt of Platte Center, Ashley Arndt of Columbus, Brandon (Britney) Zakrzewski of Columbus, Amanda (Nick) Micek of Duncan, Luke (Amber) Sempek of Genoa, Jeff (Megan) Sempek of Genoa, Alysha Borer of Norton, Kansas; 18 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alice Arndt of Lincoln; two nephews and one niece.
Gretchen was preceded in death by parents, Arthur and Laura Alpers; husband, Javan Arndt; grandson, Shane Raymond; brother, Donald Alpers; special friend, Bob Poe.
