DUNCAN — Helen Ziemba, 90, of Duncan, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Duncan. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. vigil, and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday, all at the church.
Helen was born Jan. 28, 1927, on a Nance County farm to John and Anna (Czarnick) Swerczek. She grew up in Nance, Merrick and Platte counties. She graduated from St. Stanislaus Catholic School. Helen married Bernard Ziemba on Feb. 4, 1947. They lived and worked on the family farm near Duncan until moving into Duncan in 1970. She worked at several different jobs until retirement. Bernard died July 27, 1983. Helen was a member of St. Stanislaus Parish and St. Ann’s Sodality in Duncan. She loved dancing around her kitchen to polka music every morning, praying the rosary, decorating for the holidays and playing pitch, bunco and bingo. She especially loved helping her daughters and sisters. She loved babies and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren
Helen is survived by her daughter Joan (Gary) Schlesinger of Duncan; daughter Susan Harral of Norfolk; grandsons Scott and Ross Schlesinger of Lincoln; grandson Cory (Karen) Schlesinger and their daughters Natalie and Leah of Gross Iles, Michigan; grandson Lucas (Shadi) Harral and their sons Adison, Kai and Shae of Laguna Niguel, California; grandson Travis Harral of Costa Mesa, California; sister Theresa Swierczek of Omaha; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bernard Ziemba; sisters Amelia Cutsor, Genevieve Kosiba, Frances Tworek, Isabelle Kosiba, Julia Cheloha, Berniece Schaecher, Alice Bialas and Dorothy Swierczek-Evans; and brothers Raymond Swerczek and Dennis Swerczek.
