James Wilke, 50, of Columbus, died Thursday, March 14, 2019, in rural Columbus.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Columbus, with the Rev. Aaron Witt officiating. Interment will be in Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, March 18, at Gass Haney Funeral Home, and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church, with a 10:15 a.m. family prayer service.

James was born Dec. 20, 1968, in Columbus, to Julian and Janice (Huck) Wilke. He attended Christ Lutheran grade school and graduated from Columbus Lakeview High School in 1987 before attending Platte Community College. On June 22, 1991, James was united in marriage to Rachel Foltz at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Platte Center. James farmed all his life on his family farm north of Columbus. He was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church where he held various positions, and was currently serving as an Elder. James was past president of Pla-Co Pork Producers, member of the Bismark Township Board, and was on several steering committees at Lakeview High School. He was a member of the Nebraska Cattlemen, Platte Valley Cattlemen, and active in the Lakeview FFA Alumni. James was named the 2001 Outstanding Area Young Farmer. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, attending his children's sports events and all their activities. He especially loved being Papa to his grandson Breckin.
James is survived by wife, Rachel Wilke of Columbus; daughter, Julianne (fiancée Justin Laudenklos) Wilke of Columbus, son, Colton Wilke of Columbus, daughter, Addie Wilke of Columbus; grandson, Breckin; mother, Janice Wilke of Columbus; sister, Tammy (Dale) Schlote of Norfolk, brother, Mark (Patty) Wilke of Wahoo; many nieces, nephews, great nephews and cousins; in-laws: Norbert and Dianne Foltz of Columbus, Craig (Melissa) Foltz of Platte Center, Sarah (Jim) Celmer of Mesa, Gina (Ron) Bosworth of Omaha.
James was preceded in death by father, Julian Wilke; grandparents, Ernst and Edna Huck, and Gottlieb and Ruth Wilke.
