Joan Nienkamp, 82, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Sunday, June 9, 2019, at Meridian Gardens in Columbus.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at St. Luke's UCC, with Pastor Adam Lassen officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday at the church.
Joan was born June 30, 1936, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Robert and Edna (Heller) Fredrickson. She grew up in Gresham and graduated from Gresham High School in 1954. She attended Doane College for a few years, and on Dec. 6, 1958, Joan was united in marriage to Robert Nienkamp in Lincoln. They moved in 1958 to Columbus, where Joan worked as a seamstress and was a homemaker. She was an active member or St. Luke's UCC, where she was a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir, and was a member of Ann Circle. She was a volunteer at the Columbus Hospital for 10 years.
Joan is survived by daughter Donna White and special friend Gerald Zvolanek of Liberty, Nebraska, as well as her brother, Robert (Jane) Fredrickson of Roca, Nebraska.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Edna Fredrickson; husband, Robert Nienkamp; and daughter Debbie Nienkamp.
