Joseph “Joey” Sullivan, 24, of Columbus, died Saturday, June 22, 2019, as the result of an auto accident north of Columbus.
Mass of Christian Burial, the celebration of a life well lived, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 28, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Joseph Miksch celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in All Saints Catholic Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be from 5–7 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, with a 7 p.m. vigil, all at the church. Visitation will continue from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Joseph Matthew Sullivan was born on May 19, 1995, to Mark and Vera (Spieker) Sullivan, in Oak Harbor, Washington. At eight weeks old he had his first open heart surgery in Seattle. As his family moved during his father's military career, Joey attended school in Oak Harbor, Virginia Beach, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Brookings, South Dakota. The family moved to Columbus in 2007, where Joey was very involved in music. Throughout his time in elementary, middle and high school, he played the violin, cello, the French horn and trombone in the marching band. Joey graduated from Columbus High School in 2013. During high school, he cooked at Valentino's and then at Dusters while earning his welding certificate from Central Community College in Columbus. Joey first worked at Behlen Mfg. for six months and at Valmont Industries for the last four years. He most recently served as a night shift supervisor. Joey enjoyed fishing, playing pitch, and a little gambling. Joey especially loved his dogs, Guinness and Coco. He was a member of St. Isidore Church.
Joey is survived by parents, Mark and Vera Sullivan of Columbus; sister, Andrea Sullivan of Columbus; brother, Ian Sullivan of Columbus; grandparents, Jim and Theresa Sullivan of Ventura, California; grandmother, Laura Spieker of Neligh; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Joey was preceded in death by grandfather, Robert Spieker; aunt, Annette Spieker; uncle, Paul Escheid; uncle, Brian Kelly.
