Karen Olive Niemann, 84, of St. Edward, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 8, 2019, at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward, where she was recovering from a recent fall at her home.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at United Methodist Church in St. Edward, with the Rev. Vern Olson officiating. A private family inurnment will be at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery in St. Edward. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, prior to the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Karen was born Feb. 4, 1935, to Ralph and Esther (Lightner) Martin, at the St. Edward Hospital. After Esther's untimely death soon after Karen's birth, Karen was raised by her maternal grandparents, Olive (Oline) and Stephen W. Lightner. She attended St. Edward Public Schools and graduated in 1953. She married Jewell Niemann on Oct. 4, 1953, at the St. Edward Presbyterian Church. After Jewell served in the army, they resided in St. Edward raising their four children: Lindsey, Tami, Sandy, and Jody. Karen enjoyed her family, coffee friends, sewing and crocheting.
She is survived by her children, Lindsey (Lynn) Niemann of Lincoln, Tami (Kenny) Jenkins of St. Edward, Sandy (Joe) Dubas of Mesa, Arizona, and Jody Maslonka of Columbus; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandsons; and sister-in-law, Marlene Crowe and husband, Cecil, of Pueblo, Colorado.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jewell; her parents; brother-in-law, LeRoy Niemann; and sister-in-law, Sandi Niemann.
