COLUMBUS — Ken Hledik, 73, of Columbus, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at Columbus Community Hospital.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Federated Church, with the Rev. Dr. Annika Lister Stroope officiating. Interment will be in Columbus Cemetery, with military honors by the American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Ken was born May 2, 1944, in rural Clarkson to Henry and Mary (Bourek) Hledik. He attended rural Madison County District 20 and 6 schools. On May 23, 1967, Ken entered the U.S. Army and served until he was honorably discharged on Jan. 9, 1969. He returned to Madison and went to work as a lineman for Schmader Electrical out of West Point where he worked from 1973-1983. On April 20, 1984, Ken was united in marriage to Betty Jindra in Columbus. They continued to live in Columbus where Ken enjoyed woodworking. He built many chests, cars, guns, baby cradles and many other items with his woodworking skills. He also liked to go fishing and hunting, work on lawnmowers, visiting and restoring old Volkswagens. He took a lot of pride selling watermelons for his longtime friend.
Ken is survived by his wife Betty Hledik of Columbus; son Jeremy Hledik of Columbus; daughter Christel (Robert) Effa of Columbus; sister Darlene Johnson of Minnesota; sister Evelyn Godel of California; sister Betty (Ervin) Heesacker of Columbus; and brother-in-law Ed Osantowski of Columbus.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Mary Hledik; brothers Alvin and Donald Hledik; and sister Elaine Osantowski.
