Larry “Butch” Staroscik, 76, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019, at the Columbus Community Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Saturday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. also at the funeral home.
Larry “Butch” Staroscik was born Oct. 9, 1942, in Columbus, NE to Louis and Betty (Stillinger) Staroscik. He grew up in Columbus and graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1960. In 1965, Butch graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. After a brief employment, he was called home to Columbus to assist with his grandfather's horse stable. This was the beginning of his lifelong horse training career. Butch loved his horses, Nebraska football, and the Yankees. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Butch was on the Board of Directors for the HPBA for 16 years and was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Teri Lutz of Columbus; daughters, Lori (Kenny) Reneau of Great Bend, Kansas and Kirby (Schuyler Sutton) Staroscik of Lincoln; son, Steven (Kate Woosley) Staroscik of Stillwater, Oklahoma; stepsons, Brian (Stacey) Lutz and Kevin (Traci) Lutz, both of Lincoln; 7 grandchildren; sisters, Cindy (Michael) Wendt of Columbus and Candace (Richard) Dunn of South Dakota; brother, Jerry (Linda) Staroscik of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Betty Staroscik.
